Tena ano koutou

We're trying to resist - well almost - the temptation to crow about fact that we have the first ever media interview with King Tuheitia. Mana editor Derek Fox talks to the humble man who stepped into the role of Maori King after the death of his mother, Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu, almost two years ago. King Tuheitia talks candidly about his early life, his family and how he's adapting to his new lifestyle as head of the Kingitanga.

In fact this issue is brimming with stories abou the Kingitanga which has just celebrated its 150th birthday. It's a remarkable achievement when you consider that because they didn't want to sell their lands Waikato Tainui were invaded, their people killed, and laws passed to steal their land - and not all that long ago.

As well as talking to the new King, we take a look at the resilience and recovery of the Waikato Tainui people and Mana's Qantas award-winning journalist Qiane Corfield-Matata asks just what the Kingitanga means to people today?

With Matariki on the horizon we've gathered some great recipes for you very own Matariki feast. You'll find them in our Mana Kai section.

And we go to Christchurch where a unique childcare centre, Noku Te Ao, welcomes the kids that society may dismiss as 'brats'. Here teachers work tirelessly to turn headstrong tamariki into proud, determined children who reflect the centre's basic philosophy - 'the world is mine'.

The work is looking pretty good too to Crusaders rookie, Kade Poki. We profile him for our Sports section.

And as usual Mana has heaps of giveaways including a special designer hoodie.
